How Do I Manage Plateaus On GLP-1s?

📊 What patients commonly report

Based on the patient reports provided, managing plateaus on GLP-1s involves various experiences. Some patients find that their body gets used to a dose, and then "something just clicks" and weight loss resumes, sometimes accompanied by returning nausea. One patient described struggling with the last few pounds and regaining some weight around former set points, even while maintaining their dose and not changing diet or exercise. Another patient, after significant weight loss, continued working out, tracking meals, and drinking water, and considered adjusting their dose or adding another substance. A possible dietary deficiency was also mentioned as a factor when weight loss slows.

⚖️ Where experiences differ
Reported as helpful
  • still working out 4-5x a week still tracking meals, almost 2 gallons of water a day
  • your body gets used to a dose and then something just clicks and it starts working different
  • I did get within 2lbs of goal, and decided to proclaim I was in maitenance. I havent changed much in diet or exercise, and continued with 15mg/wk, but have regained those darn 3lbs this month!
  • Just wanted to mention it * could * be a dietary deficiency
Reported as ineffective
  • I don't have any direct experience of stopping the programme
  • I don't have the money for surgery
💬 What patients said

"Should i go down? or maintain dose? Officially down 73lbs in 6/7 months it has been crazy to even think about where i was before, still working out 4-5x a week still tracking meals, almost 2 gallons of water a day, like i said before, this isnt a miracle you cant expect it to do the work when you continue to eat like crap and not workout. Starting weight " not accurate " was around the 270's im currently at around 197/198ish mark, Now the real question is im considering addign cjc-1295 to the mix, should i lower my dose? on reta?"

"I lost a bunch of weight at first because my side effects were so strong that I barely ate. And then the hair started falling out. Now I'm doing much better, eating healthier, and the weight loss and hair loss had slowed, but I've noticed more hairs in my fingers in the shower for the last week or so. My body also just seems to lose hair when it loses weight no matter what I do. Just wanted to mention it * could * be a dietary deficiency, but ultimately every body loses weight differently."

"Lost 60 lbs, with increasing to 15mg in Oct. managed to lose 5lbs more by end of March this year, but can’t seem to get the last 5lbs to go. I did get within 2lbs of goal, and decided to proclaim I was in maitenance. I havent changed much in diet or exercise, and continued with 15mg/wk, but have regained those darn 3lbs this month! After reviewing my entire monthly journey, I realized that this has happened a few times before, usually around former weight set points."

"this happens. your body gets used to a dose and then something just clicks and it starts working different, happens to a lot of people around that 6 month mark. nausea coming back is annoying but sounds like that's what kicked things into gear for you. just keep an eye on how you're feeling though, nine pounds in two doses is solid but make sure you're not getting dehydrated or anything wild."

⚠️

When weight loss resumes after a plateau, it is important to monitor for dehydration or other unusual symptoms.
